From pandemic challenges to taxes and from cybersecurity to AI developments, Glen Goland, JD, CFP®, covers a wide range of topics in The Portland Business Journal’s Thought Leader Roundtable on Wealth Management. Lisa Massena (co-founder of Arnerich Massena) hosted the roundtable discussion, during which she asked Glen and Brent Berselli of Holland & Knight law firm, about current challenges and issues in wealth management. Featured in The Money Issue special section, the article is a deep dive into current wealth management concerns.

Glen highlights some new developments in the wealth management space, including coming tax changes, impact investing, and trends like meme stocks and SPACs (Special Purpose Acquisition Companies). In discussing investment trends, he notes that value seems to be returning to the investment stage; he says, “For a long time, there were high-flying growth companies with really high valuations, and they have been stopped in their tracks. For the last six months we’ve seen dramatic performance from what’s called value areas – the kind of stuff Warren Buffet invests in.” He brings up the point that the pandemic has brought legacy planning to the forefront for many investors, discussing how Arnerich Massena has been working to assist clients with generational wealth transfer. “There are questions that involve communication with the kids and getting them up to speed and understanding what their folks have built and are leaving to them.”
